Cost: Free for Museum members; Non-members - $8 adults; $7 children (3-12) and seniors (60+).  Includes all-day exhibit admission!

  • Interactive Light Painting – 10 a.m. - Noon and 1-3 p.m. – Crossroads Room (at the back of Lone Star Dinosaurs) Capture light and convert it into a painting or sculpture. This activity will definitely brighten your outlook on art!
  • Digital Spirograph – 10 a.m. – Noon – ExploraZone (Traits of Life) Gallery Add light and create interesting colors, shapes and patterns. Project them for all to see or print them out and take them home.
  • The Mondo Drummers – 10:30-11:30 a.m. – Museum Rotunda What would MindFest be without the Mondo Drummers? See how the beat can look so sweet!
  • Wandering Exhibits – 10:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m. – Throughout the Museum Explore Musical Fish, make ice sing, wonder at the musical wands. Be on the lookout for these wandering, wonderful contraptions throughout the day.
  • Animation Zone – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. – Lone Star Dinosaurs Make a flip book of animated drawings, and just what is a thaumatrope?
  • Film Festival – 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Center for Science Learning See even more enlightening, wacky films! We guarantee you won’t see these at the local theater.
  • Build-A-BlinkyBug – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. – Hands On Science Forget bears, instead build an electromechanical bug! Each is made by hand, is unique and can respond to your directed stimuli, making it seem alive.
  • Scratch Animation 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Risk! Gallery Take some old film and scratch away. It’s not much by itself but when combined with everyone else’s creations, it’s a spectacular show.
  • Chain Reaction – Noon – 2:30 p.m. – Risk! Gallery Help create a continuous, luminous chain reaction with wood, blocks, lights and other stuff. Stick around for the tip-off at the end.
  • “Throwie” Central – Noon – 4 p.m. – ExploraZone Take a battery, a small LED and a magnet and create a “throwie.” Throw it up high and add color and light to your neighborhood and your life.
  • Stomp Rockets – 12:30-2:30 p.m. – East Parking Lot The sky’s the limit with these human-propelled missiles. Use pipe, plastic bottles and paper to shoot for the sun.
  • Mega Take-Apart – 1:30-4:30 p.m. – East Parking Lot It’s back! Help dismantle a derelict car. No mechanical skills required.
  • MindFest Film Extravaganza – 5 p.m. – Museum Rotunda We’ll combine the results of the Animation Zone and Scratch Animation for one brilliant grand film finale!
Special Noble Planetarium program: Light From Space Starlight provides a lot more in our lives than you might think. Learn about starlight, sunlight, and the effects of too much or too little in this one-day-only planetarium program. See it at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost is $2 for Museum members; $3.50 for non-members.

MindFest supported by DesignIT Studios Project
Students from the Museum’s DesignIT Studios are contributing their expertise to MindFest’s unique blend of art, science, math, engineering and technology. DesignIT Studios combine digital technology with science, math and engineering in an innovative art studio environment. Partners include Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, Fort Worth Independent School District, and the National Science Foundation.
